Central Valley Coyotes News Release
The Coyotes conducted their night practice at the team's training facility and home field in downtown Fresno.
Still reeling from their loss at Oklahoma City last Saturday, the Coyotes now prepare to host the San Diego Riptide for a divisional battle. The team still has plenty of motivation to play through the month of July.
"We have a good group of guys out here who never quit and who are always trying to get better," said defensive coordinator Doug Murray. "No one has thrown the towel in and we still prepare for each team the same way no matter what our record is."
Despite the disappointment of Saturday's loss, Interim Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. continues to believe in the effort and preparation he's received from his team.
"We've had only one (practice) but this team prepares well," he offered. "The concentration level, the effort in practice, the time we put in the meeting rooms, we are going to still practice in pads and continue to work technique â those things are not a problem. What we need to do is perform on Saturday and not make the mental errors that take us out of the game like last week."
LaMonte Jones, the Coyotes second leading receiver with 56 receptions for 669 yards and 11 TD's, intends to help break his teams six game losing streak this weekend.
"We need to come out and be aggressive on a team like San Diego," said Jones. "We really haven't been able to come out and just jump on a team offensively all season. We showed a glimpse of it in the first quarter last weekend but we need to keep that up for the other three quarters as well. I think this week will be the week to put together that complete game."
Marvin Brown will look to have a big game against the Riptide as well, in Week 4 Brown injured his left arm during the game which put him out for eight weeks.
"We need to get a W badly," said Brown. "I'm pretty excited to play against the team the knocked me out for most of the season. I have no bad feelings towards any of the players on the Riptide because they were playing football just like I was. I'm just looking to come out and have a big game, I'll let my game speak for itself."
Injuries
Offensive/defensive lineman Aaron Leverenz will undergo an MRI on his left knee Monday to see how much damage was done to it during the game last weekend. Leverenz is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer (ankle) practiced at full-go today. His status is still questionable for Saturday.
Roster Moves
Kamaloni Manu was released from the squad today for conduct detrimental to the team. Ailao Isaako was placed on long term injured reserve and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
