
Rio Grande Valley's Will Conroy Signs With Houston Rockets, Rockets Assign Rookie Guard

NEW YORK, Jan. 28, 2010 - The Houston Rockets today signed guard Will Conroy of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, making him the 10th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA D-League season and the second from Rio Grande Valley to Houston. Conroy, who was called-up three times during the 2006-07 season, joins 69 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience. In a related roster move, the Rockets assigned rookie guard Jermaine Taylor to the Vipers, the team's NBA D-League affiliate.
Conroy, a 6-2 guard, has appeared in 13 games with the Vipers this season, averaging 13.9 points, 8.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He scored in double figures 12 times, notching four double-doubles. He scored a season-high 20 points to go with 14 assists in a 109-100 loss to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Jan. 13.

Previously signed as a free agent by the Rockets on Sept. 22, 2009, Conroy averaged 6.0 points and 2.6 assists in five preseason games with Houston. He was waived by the Rockets on Oct. 22, 2009.
Conroy returns to the NBA following stints with the L.A. Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies during the 2006-07 season. He has appeared in seven career NBA games, dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven rebounds in 52 minutes.
A standout at the University of Washington, Conroy finished his career with the Huskies as the all-time leader in assists. Originally a walk-on at Washington, Conroy was the first Husky player to ever top 200 assists in a season. The Seattle native also finished his four-year college career 21st on the Huskies all-time scoring list and led Washington to its first-ever Pac-10 Tournament Championship as a senior in 2004-05 while earning Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors.
Taylor, a 6-4 rookie out of Central Florida, was selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards and traded to the Rockets on draft night. In 13 games for Houston this season, he is averaging 2.4 points and 5.5 minutes. He scored a career-high seven points in a 102-95 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 25.
The reigning Conference USA Player of the Year, Taylor averaged 26.2 points (third best in the NCAA) during his senior season. He finished his collegiate career as UCF's all-time leading scorer in the school's Division I history, while ranking fourth all-time in conference-history with 1,979 points.
Conroy is expected to join the Rockets this afternoon and be available tomorrow, Jan. 29, when Houston hosts the Portland Trail Blazers at the Toyota Center. Taylor is expected to join the Vipers this afternoon and be available when the team hosts the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the second game of a back-to-back tomorrow at Dodge Arena.
