Rio Grande Valley Loses

June 28, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

SAN ANGELO- Darryl Jones' single in the bottom of the ninth off Alberto Reyes gave the San Angelo Colts a 6-5 victory in 12 innings at Foster Field Thursday night.

The Colts trailed 5-3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. But Jason Crosland reached on an infield hit to give San Angelo life, and Josh Banda extended it with an RBI double to left field.

Still, WhiteWings chances appeared to be good with catcher Michael Pair standing at the plate. Pair had yet to collect his first professional base hit in 17 at bats, but he came through with an opposite field single off Nick Lezendort to left field that plated Pair with the tying run.

Rio Grande Valley's (20-13) defeat sank them to second place in the United League by a half game behind Edinburg who defeated Abilene 6-2.

The WhiteWings enjoyed a fine pitching effort from Brownsville native Henry Garcia. Garcia hurled seven innings and after a rough start in which he allowed three first inning runs, he settled down to allow only one single in his final six innings of work. The lefthander walked only the final hitter he faced and fanned six batters in a no-decision.
