San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Thursday they have signed rookie catcher Andrew Caron, and placed veteran outfielder J.J. Sherrill on the Inactive List due to the head injury he sustained in Monday's game at Abilene.
Caron began the season with the White Sands Pupfish of the semi-pro Pecos League. There he hit .385 with a home run and three RBIs in 15 games. Caron made his pro debut last night for the Colts, going 1-for-5 with a single.
The 24-year-old began his collegiate career at Division I Campbell University in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and completed it at Division I Mount Saint Mary's in the Northeast Conference. As a senior at Mount Saint Mary's, Caron hit .318 with three homers and 31 RBIs in 49 games. He was also named a Northeast Conference All-Star.
In four years split between Campbell and Mount Saint Mary's, Caron batted .289 with 10 home runs and 61 RBIs in 130 games. Caron is a native of Waynesboro, Pa.
In order to make room on the active roster for Caron, the Colts also put Sherrill on the Inactive List. Sherrill is recovering from Monday's head injury in Abilene. He is batting .353 with a home run and seven RBIs in 25 games this season.
