Rio Grande Valley FC Signs Forward Michael Salazar

March 14, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC has signed Belizean forward Michael Salazar, the club announced today. Salazar has been added to the active roster and is available for Saturday's home opener against Fresno FC (7:30 p.m. CDT | TICKETS).

Salazar (5-11, 181) has experience in Major League Soccer with the Montreal Impact. He scored five goals and added three assists in 34 games from 2016-18 with the Impact. He also earned valuable minutes in the USL Championship with the Ottawa Fury, Montreal's USL affiliate, in 2017 and 2018, and FC Montreal in 2016. He appeared in a total of eight games, scoring two goals in 2017.

The 26-year-old has made 10 appearances for the Belize National Team from 2013-17, including representing his country in the 2015 and 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup tournaments. He has also appeared in two matches for the Belize U-20 Youth National Team in 2011.

With the addition of Salazar, RGV FC now has 28 players on the active roster. The hybrid relationship between the Dynamo and RGV FC in which the Dynamo control all aspects of soccer operations, including employment of the technical staff and player selection, while RGV FC manages the business side of the club, was unique in MLS when RGV FC was launched in 2016 and has quickly been emulated by multiple MLS clubs over the past year.
