Arkansas RimRockers News Release
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 15 - Clay Tucker victimized the Stampede with his third double-double of the season scoring 16 points and 10 assists, as the Arkansas RimRockers defeated Idaho 99-85 Thursday night at Alltel Arena.
The RimRockers defeated a division leading team for the third consecutive time, sending the top ranked Stampede to a record of 21-11. Arkansas' continued their recent home dominance improving to 10-20.
"We never lost our focus." said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "That's one of the few games I've coached in a long time where they never lost their focus. Even when the subs came in, we didn't let down; everybody played really well."
Arkansas used a 14-2 run midway through the first quarter to take a 13 point lead and never relinquished the lead. The RimRockers ended the half with a 53-46 advantage heading into the break, even with two Stampede players in double figures.
For the fourth consecutive game, and sixth of the last eight, Roger Powell led the RimRockers in scoring with 19 points. Olu Famutimi also hit double digits with 14 and 5 boards and Brian Jackson chipped in with 15 and a game-high 4 steals.
"We were out of focus on the road. Why? I don't know." Tucker said. "Tonight we came out focused and we got it done defensively. We were alert. We were cutting them off and jumping to the ball on each pass. We mixed our defense up, which I think gave them a lot of problems."
After losing on the road in Albuquerque, Coach Stoglin preached playing hard all the time, and it showed as Arkansas didn't take pressure off the ball game. They forced 25 turnovers and led the last 9:22 of the game with a double digit lead.
"That 40-point loss taught us a lesson, and I hope it's for more than this game." added Stoglin.
Idaho forward Jermaine Blackburn led all scorers with 20 points. Ricky Sanchez, 15 points, and Luke Jackson, 19, connected on 7 of 12 three point attempts to try and keep the game close. NBA assignee Mouhamed Sene scored 7 and collected 10 rebounds in the loss.
The RimRockers and Stampede will square off in the rematch Friday night at Alltel Arena. Brandon Dean will look to continue his great play as he is honored with Brandon Dean Bobblehead Night, sponsored by Moe's Southwest Grill.
