
Riley, Parsons Earn Weekly Honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 6. Mississippi Braves third baseman, Austin Riley and right-handed pitcher, Wes Parsons have been selected for the weekly awards.
Riley, the 21-year old third baseman is currently rocking a .333 batting average (33-for-99) on the season. Riley leads all Mississippi Braves players in hits (33), doubles (10), triples (3), homeruns (6), runs batted in (20), and total bases (67). The young power hitter also leads the team with a .677 slugging percentage and a 1.071 on-base slugging percentage. Riley currently leads the Southern League in extra-base hits (19), slugging percentage (.677), total bases (67) and is tied with seven other players for the most homeruns (6). For the week ending Sunday, May 6, Riley went 7-for-15 at the plate with four runs scored, two doubles, two homeruns, and five runs batted in. A native of Hernando, MS, Riley was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2015 as their selection in the Competitive Balance Round A (No. 41 overall) out of Desoto Central High School (Hernando, MS).
Parsons, the 25-year old right-handed pitcher who has become a dependable starter for the M-Braves, currently has a win/loss record of 1-2 and a 1.61 ERA. Parsons has appeared in seven games with the Mississippi Braves in 2018 with six of his seven appearances being starts. Parsons earned his first win of the 2018 season on Saturday, May 5 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. In his outing against the Blue Wahoos, Parsons tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowed just two hits, walked three, and struck out five Blue Wahoos batters. On the season, Parsons has pitched a total of 22.1 innings, has allowed 20 hits, 11 runs, four earned runs, one homerun, has walked a total of ten batters and struck out 19. The Clarksville, TN native was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 30, 2012. Parsons played his collegiate baseball at Jackson State Community College (Jackson, TN).
The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
