Right-handed pitcher Christian Parker transferred to Edmonton

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that right-handed pitcher Christian Parker has been transferred to the club from Short-Season Single-A Vermont. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 24 players; 13 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders and four outfielders.

Parker, 28, split the 2003 season between three teams in the New York Yankees farm system. He spent the majority of the campaign with Triple-A Columbus, where the native of Albuquerque, New Mexico went 7-6 with a 4.90 ERA (108.1 IP - 59 ER) in 19 starts with the Clippers. Parker also made five starts for Double-A Trenton, going 1-2, 2.83 (28.2 IP - 9 ER) with two complete games and one shutout and one start for Single-A Tampa, where he was 0-0, 1.80 (5.0 IP - 1 ER). He was originally selected by the Montreal Expos in the fourth round of the 1996 draft and was traded to the New York Yankees along with right-hander Jake Westbrook and left-hander Ted Lilly as one of two players to be named later in exchange for right-hander Hideki Irabu on March 22, 2000. Parker was 14-6 with a 3.13 ERA (204.0 IP - 71 ER) in 2000 for Double-A Norwich, but then missed most of the next two seasons after undergoing right shoulder surgery. He was signed by the Expos as a free agent on November 14, 2003, and went 0-0, 1.13 (8.0 IP - 1 ER) in five appearances with Montreal during Spring Training. He owns a career 54-38 record with eight saves and a 3.45 ERA (824.0 IP - 316 ER) in 174 minor league appearances (117 starts).

The next Trapper home game will be on Sunday, April 25 when the club will take on the Tacoma Rainiers. The game will begin at 1:35 PM.
