Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson pitchers allowed just two hits Friday night but Portland scored a second inning run and shutout the Sidewinders 1-0 at PGE Park. Portland collected a bunt hit in the first inning and a double in the second and went hitless over the last six innings. Tucson managed five hits and left six men on base.
The Sidewinders finished the seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record.
Portland got on the board in the second inning when Alex Fernandez walked and scored on a one-out double by Bobby Scales.
The Sidewinders didn't get a base runner until the fourth off Beaver starter Dennis Tankersley and managed just three singles off him through 6.2 innings. Blaine Neal came out of the Portland bullpen in the seventh inning with two men on base and one out and induced a ground ball double play off the bat of Juan Brito.
Tucson got singles from Alan Zinter and Victor Hall in the eighth inning but Scott Hairston rolled out to third to end the threat.
Victor Hall was the only Sidewinder with a multi-hit game, with two singles.
Tucson's record dropped to 10-5. The Sidewinders return home Saturday for the first of four games with Fresno. Jim Parque (0-0 5.68) will start for Tucson in the 6:30 p.m. game. The Grizzlies will counter with Ryan Jensen (1-1 4.30). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
