Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary, AB - A strong showing on their home turf earned the Calgary Roughnecks a decisive 13-8 victory over the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday night to improve to 7-9 on the season.

An impressive first half of play saw the ‚¬ËœNecks stake out a 4-0 advantage and concede just two goals in the opening 30 minutes.

Early on in the first frame, Frank Scigliano reached back with his glove to clear a ball off the line, keeping the Roughnecks' 2-0 lead intact.

Calgary did not concede a first-quarter goal - a feat which had not yet been accomplished by the team in 2017 - as the hosts led 3-0 after 15 minutes of play thanks to markers from Curtis Dickson, Jeff Shattler and Tyler Digby.

When the second commenced, Dickson bounced one by Davide DiRuscio before the Bandits finally found the scoreboard with just 5:41 remaining until the break. Then, an acrobatic one-handed shot by Shattler from behind the crease reclaimed the Riggers' four-goal advantage, and what appeared to be a buzzer-beating goal by Buffalo was overturned due to a Calgary challenge.

The third quarter saw Dickson secure a hat-trick and Riley Loewen also find the back of the net. In total, the ‚¬ËœNecks outscored the Bandits by a 5-3 margin in the stanza.

Shattler converted on a power play opportunity during the fourth as the Roughnecks would go on to finish the evening 3-for-5 with the man advantage.

Going the distance in the win for the Riggers was Scigliano, making 46 saves along the way. Once again atop the scoresheet for Calgary, Dickson (4g, 6a) was the only 'Necks player to finish with a double-digit point total. Wesley Berg (2g, 3a) and Shattler (3g, 2a) also made major contributions.

As for Buffalo, Mitch Jones (2g, 2a), Pat Saunders (3g) and Mark Steenhuis (3a) led the offensive attack. DiRuscio played all 60 minutes for the Bandits and stop 40 shots in the process.

Week 16 of NLL action will see the Roughnecks head to the Langley Events Centre for an all-important clash with the 6-9 Vancouver Stealth.
