Calgary, AB - Kyle Wailes, the Calgary Roughnecks first round selection in the National Lacrosse League's 2006 entry draft, is unlikely to dress for the team this year.

"Unfortunately, we have been unable to get Kyle to Calgary," Kurt Silcott, the Riggers General Manager, said today. "We've had numerous conversations and he would to love to play, but his current job in New York is taking up all his time.

"We understand the situation, and as that job is putting food on his table, we will just have to wait and see what happens."

Wailes, a 6 ft. 1 in. 195 lb leftie, was taken 9th overall in the draft.

"Kyle has been up front with us in all our discussions," added Silcott, "and we're hopeful to bring him into the fold or arrange a trade sometime down the road.

"The good thing is that Kyle is signed, so we will retain his rights until we either get a fair offer, or in a best case scenario, he is able to come to Calgary and begin his lacrosse career without jeopardizing his full-time job."

In other moves, the Roughnecks released Calgarian Jeremy Cheyne and Edmonton product Stuart Sterparn.

"Jeremy just couldn't make the commitment to the team we need," explained Silcott. "He is a very talented player but it seems he has just too many other things going on in his life right now.

"The players on this team have, and are, making the sacrifices necessary to contend for a championship. Jeremy just didn't have the time to do that."

Silcott continued, "Stuart (Sterparn) had a great camp and it was a very difficult decision for the coaching staff. He played well in the Edmonton scrimmage on the weekend and we think he has a future in this league.

"But it was tough to find a spot for him when he's up against the likes of Lewis Ratcliff, Kyle Goundrey, Shawn Cable and Scott Anderson."
