Riekert Hattingh Reaches 50 Caps

On Saturday, April 23rd Riekert Hattingh became the eleventh player in Major League Rugby to take the pitch for 50 matches.

Hattingh grew up playing rugby and worked his way up through the ranks with Blue Bulls Academy system. His playing experience with the Blue Bulls culminated with participation in the 2016 Currie Cup on the Blue Bulls team.

In 2016, Hattingh was part of the first US professional league where he played for the Ohio Aviators. He also played for Scioto Valley/Columbus Rugby in 2016-17 and served as a Tiger Rugby Academy Coach in 2016-17.

Ahead of the Inaugural MLR season in 2018, Hattingh was selected captain of the Seattle Seawolves and has maintained the captaincy to present day. Now on his fifth season with Seattle, he has scored an impressive 24 career tries to date.

Major League Rugby is honoring the first 50 players to reach 50 caps, and their role in building the legacy of MLR. The latest of the first ten players to reach 50 caps for MLR includes Moni Tongauiha and JP du Plessis of NOLA Gold and Lance Williams and Mika Kruse of the Utah Warriors.
