Riders Acquire Defensive Lineman Charleston Hughes

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired international defensive lineman Charleston Hughes from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for international quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.

The Tiger-Cats had acquired Hughes from the Calgary Stampeders in an earlier transaction.

Hughes (6'1 - 246) is a veteran of 10 CFL seasons after originally joining the Stampeders in June, 2008.

Over the last ten seasons, Hughes has registered 412 defensive tackles, 99 quarterback sacks, 38 special-teams tackles and 23 forced fumbles. He's also appeared in 11 career playoff games and four Grey Cup games.

In 2017, the 34-year-old Hughes registered 41 defensive tackles, 11 quarterback sacks, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Hughes was named a CFL All-Star in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017 while being named a West Division All-Star in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015-17. He won Grey Cup championships while with the Stampeders in 2008 and 2014.

Adams was acquired by the Riders in August, 2017 and went on to dress for 11 games as a backup quarterback.
