St. John's IceCaps News Release

PLAYER SWAP: The Montreal Canadiens acquired right winger Max Friberg from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Friberg made his IceCaps debut against Portland on Saturday night.

EIMSKIP CUP: The IceCaps couldn't hold off the aggressive Pirates as Portland took a 2-0 lead in the four-game Eimskip Challenge Cup. The Pirates swept the first series, and will host the IceCaps at the end of the month.

ALL-STARS: Defenceman Mark Barberio and rookie-forward Michael McCarron were selected to play in the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Toyota in Syracuse, NY. Barberio is currently on recall with the Montreal Canadiens but leads IceCaps blueliners with 20 points.

McCarron leads the team in goals (13), and second in points (25), while sitting fifth in the AHL rookie-scoring race.

The IceCaps returned to Mile One Centre for the first time in 2016 to face the Portland Pirates. Zach Fucale was busy for St. John's, facing 36 shots and stopping 32, including 18-of-20 in the opening frame. Bud Holloway notched the lone IceCaps goal of the night on the power play in the second period.

The Portland Pirates scored three first period goals en route to a win over the IceCaps at Mile One Centre. All three first period tallies came in the game's opening 11 minutes and ended goaltender Eddie Pasquale's night early. Zach Fucale took over between the pipes and stopped 23-of-24 shots in relief. Gabriel Dumont scored the lone goal for St.

John's with a late third period marker to break the shutout bid by Pirates netminder Mike McKenna.
