Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - John Richy held the Miracle bats in check on Sunday, and Zach Green knocked his 11th home run of the season to back the solid pitching performance as the Threshers topped Fort Myers, 7-2 at Bright House Field.

Richy (3-4) gave Clearwater six strong innings in the start, permitting two runs - one earned - on five hits and a pair of walks. He has gone at least five innings and surrendered three runs or less in each of his last seven outings between the Threshers and Reading Fightin Phils.

Clearwater (20-11) took a lead it would not relinquish in the second inning.

Kyle Martin and Green got it going with consecutive singles, and Jiandido Tromp walked to load the bases. Down in the count 1-2, Malquin Canelo struck a base hit to left to plate Martin with the opening run.

After a double play put runners at second and third with two down, Austin Bossart pushed a single up the middle to bring home both Tromp and Canelo and put the Threshers in front, 3-0.

Fort Myers (17-14) took advantage of a defensive miscue to plate an unearned run in the fourth, but Clearwater answered in kind in the bottom half.

Canelo reached on a one-out error on third baseman TJ White, and with two down it was Bossart who delivered again. This time, Bossart pulled a double to the left field corner to score Canelo and extend the lead to 4-1.

Reynaldo Rodriguez was responsible for the only earned run of the day off Richy, launching his second homer of the series in the sixth inning.

The Threshers pulled away in the seventh. With reliever Luke Westphal on the hill, Carlos Tocci drew a base on balls, and Mitch Walding reached on a second error on White, which permitted Tocci to cross the plate.

With two down, Green shot a deep line drive over the wall in left for a two-run shot to make it a 7-2 ballgame. Green now has 11 home runs this season, as well as 54 RBIs.

Victor Arano delivered two hitless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three, and Jimmy Cordero finished it off with a scoreless ninth.

Clearwater sits two games up on the Dunedin Blue Jays for first place in the FSL North, and after an off day on Monday the Threshers will head to Daytona for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
