Kalamazoo, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have added another local talent signing forward Zach Saar the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Saar, originally from Richland, MI, joins the K-Wings for his second professional season. Last year the forward appeared in 29 games with the Utah Grizzlies, recording six points (5g, 1a).

"Signing in Kalamazoo means a lot on so many levels," said Saar. "I wore that sweater with KOHA growing up and now to wear it again, everything has just come full circle. It means so much more than just myself. My career is coming back to where it started and it's just really cool and kind of surreal."

After leaving home at the age of 15 to play junior hockey with Chicago, Des Moines, and Muskegon in the USHL the forward spent four seasons at Penn State University. While in Happy Valley, Saar appeared in 92 games recording 29 points (15g, 14a).

"We're really excited and glad to be able to add more homegrown talent from right here in southwest Michigan," said head coach Nick Bootland. "He really uses his 6'4" frame to his advantage. He's got a really heavy shot and knows how to protect the puck very well."

Saar is the second player with local ties to sign with the K-Wings this summer, joining Battle Creek native Chad McDonald.

Single game tickets go on sale Friday, September 7, at 10:00am. Seats start at $10 with senior, military, student, and child discounts available. Kalamazoo Wings season tickets are available now and start at less than $13 per game with parking included and one-of-a-kind benefits.
