Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Everett, WA) - Canadians RHP Matthew Thomson, who struck out 10 over five shutout innings in a spot start in the California League on August 19th, baffled his opponents over two starts in his return to the Canadians this past week earning him Northwest League Pitcher of the Week honours.
Pitching against the Boise Hawks this past Tuesday (August 24), Thomson struck out the first two batters he faced and punched out 11 without issuing a free pass over seven innings, giving up a run on four hits.
On Sunday (August 29), he picked up his third win in three Northwest League starts, beating Salem-Keizer with five innings of one-run ball. Once more, Thomson refused to allow a walk over the course of his outing, and he's surrendered a total of just six walks over his last 10 appearances, counting his start with Class-A Advanced Stockton.
Thomson was previously named NWL Pitcher of the Week on July 12-18 and August 2-8.
Other Vancouver Canadians to win Player of the Week Honours include RHP Ryan Doolittle (June 28-July 4); RHP Deyvi Jimenez & 3B Tony Thompson (July 5-11); 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones (July 26-August 1).
