Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
Traverse City MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the signing of catcher Jake Rhodes to a contract extension. 2016 will mark Rhodes third season in Northern Michigan.
"Rhodes has been a leader since the first day he came into camp," said Director of Baseball Operations Jason Wuerfel. "His value to the club goes beyond what you see on paper. He's smart behind the plate, calls a good game, controls the running game, and the pitcher's like throwing to him."
For his Beach Bums career, the left-handed hitting backstop has hit .232 with six home runs and 44 RBI in 109 games. He was a Frontier League All-Star in 2014 when he hit .271 with three homers and 30 RBI. He played a key role for TC in its championship run last season, catching all six games as the Beach Bums swept both Normal and River City.
Prior to coming to Traverse City, Rhodes played two seasons at Division-I Murray State University where he .265 with 21 doubles, eight home runs and 66 RBI in 111 games for the Racers.
The Traverse City Beach Bums are the 2015 Frontier League Champions and will be playing their 11th season of professional baseball in Northern Michigan starting May 2016. All home games are played at Wuerfel Park, a state of the art ballpark located in Blair Township, Mich. The Beach Bums business offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, Season Tickets, Group packages, patio tables and suites are all available for the 2016 season.
