April 15, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (2-4-0) is back into the win column as they defeated New York Redbulls ll (1-5-0) at MSU Soccer Park on Friday night. Frank Lopez remains hot as he adds to his season goal total.
The opening half of the match proved to be a battle on both ends of the pitch. New York applied early and constant pressure to the Rio Grande defense, shooting on six occasions and landing one on target to disrupt the pace for Tyler Deric who made his return to the Toros starting lineup for the first time since March 12. Rio Grande had one shot on goal in three tries as they accustomed themselves to the turf play at MSU Soccer Park.
Rio Grande opened the scoring on the night at the 66th minutes as Emilio Ycaza sent a bouncing cross from just inside the left wing of the box, Anthony Marcucci was unable to control the bounce and a sliding Frank Lopez was able to use his body to lightly deflect the ball into the center of the goal to claim his fourth goal of the year, 0-1.
Red Bulls ll tested the RGV goal at the 79th minute as Jeremy Rafanello place a set piece shot to the bottom right of the goal where a diving Deric made the save and sent the ball to a corner kick to end the danger. On the night New York Red Bulls ll shot 20%, placing only two shots on goal.
RGV FC makes the quick turnaround as they travel to Houston Dynamo on April 19 for their U.S Open Cup third round match at 7:30pm CST. To see more matchday information, visit www.rgvfc.com.
