Reza Promoted to Pawtucket; Tejeda Received from Extended Spring
April 22, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Despite an off day on Tuesday, the Drive had several roster moves as infielder Aaron Reza was promoted to the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A) of the International League. To fill the roster spot infielder Oscar Tejeda was received from Extended Spring Training.
Through the first 19 games of the season, Reza was tied for the team-lead with three homers and was batting .353 (18-51), which ranked third on the Drive. In addition, the 2007 22nd round selection out of the University of Oklahoma led the Drive with a .667 slugging percentage and a 1.107 OPS.
In the Drive's April 14th victory over the West Virginia Power, Reza became the first batter in franchise history to lead off a game with a home run. Of the infielder's 18 hits on the year, 10 of which went for extra-bases tying him for the lead in the South Atlantic League - his seven doubles were also tied for the league lead.
Oscar Tejeda joins the Drive after beginning the season at Extended Spring Training in Fort Myers, Florida as he was recovering from a staph infection in his throwing arm.
Splitting time between the Gulf Coast League Red Sox (Rookie Level) and Lowell Spinners (Short-Season Single-A) in his first professional season in 2007, Tejeda batted .296 with a home run, 33 RBI, 37 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases in 67 games. At 17 years, 7 months, and 22 days of age, Tejeda tied the Spinners franchise record for the youngest player when he made his debut with the team on August 17, 2007.
According to Baseball America, Tejeda ranks as the ninth best prospect, fifth position player, in the Red Sox farm system. In addition he is rated as having the best infield arm in the organization.
The Drive resume play Wednesday when they begin a six-game home stand, starting with the Asheville Tourists. First pitch for tomorrow's game is slated for 11:05 AM, the second Businessperson's Special presented by Find Great People of the season.
