Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, the class-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, are holding their eighth annual ALS Celebrity Waiter and Auction Event on May 21st. For the first time, it will be hosted at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Proceeds will benefit the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey, the official charity of the Phillies.
After the BlueClaws 11:05 a.m. game on May 21st, the players and coaches will return to the ballpark to work for the fans as they enjoy a buffet style dinner. Entrees include: Prime Rib of Beef, Grilled Salmon, Chicken Francaise and Penne Ala Vodka. A children's menu will also be available and it will all be followed with a Viennese dessert table. A full service cash bar will also be available.
"Having this event at the ballpark will make this year unique," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "It will give it that true baseball feel and also allow us to donate even more to this great charity."
Children will be allowed to play catch on the field with a BlueClaws player for an additional donation. Numerous BlueClaws game used items, autographed team and individual memorabilia will be up for bid during a silent auction and members of the BlueClaws will be available to sign autographs. Lakewood's mascot, Buster, will also be in attendance.
The cost of the dinner is $25 per person with tips not included. Sponsor tables of eight people are available for $250. Each sponsor will get their name on the table as well as on the centerfield scoreboard during the dinner.
Proceeds, including 100 percent of the tips revenue, will go to the ALS Association. In the first seven years this fundraiser has totaled over $60,000.
Advanced reservations are required as seating availability is limited. Individuals or groups interested in making reservations for the event can call Lisa Carone, Director of Special Events, at 732- 901-7000 ext. 192.
All money raised from the event will support ALS research and services provided free of charge to ALS patients and families throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties, including in-home care, clinics, equipment, technology, recreational programs and nursing visits.
A progressive, motor-neuron disease, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, usually strikes both men and women between the ages of 30 and 75. Once thought to be rare, ALS occurs nearly as often as multiple sclerosis. Every 90 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with ALS, for which the cause and cure are unknown.
The BlueClaws are once again the most affordable baseball ticket in New Jersey. Tickets are available by calling 732-901-7000 or by visiting BlueClaws.com.
