Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers got a two-out, two-run home run from Ivan Reyes in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the Edmonton Capitals 6-6 in a exhibition game at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Vipers trialed 6-2 and completed the comeback in the ninth after the Capitals scored all their runs in the fourth inning.

Other than the one bad inning the Snakes' pitching staff was terrific started out by Hideki Nagasaka who went three shutout innings allowing two hits, striking out one, and not walking a batter. Jordy Alexander was also great in the game going two and a third shutout innings giving up two hits, striking out two, and also not walking a batter. Frank James pitched a scoreless inning while striking out one and Zak Blakney tossed two frames without giving up a hit and striking out one. Cather Rick Guarno worked alongside his staff to throw out both potential base stealers they faced.

At the plate Fehlandt Lentini went two-for-four with three runs scored and Drew Miller went three-for-four. The Vipers did however strand ten base runners compared to the four for Edmonton.

The Vipers opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Lentini singled and Nelson Castro promptly tripled him home. Castro scored to make the score 2-0 on a Miller base hit.

Edmonton responded in the top of the fourth inning with six runs on six hits for a 6-2 lead. Gary Harris started the inning with a single, Darryl Brinkley walked, and Norm Hutchins plated a run with a single. Joe Jianetti followed with a two-run base knock, Jorge Cortes singled, Chad Ehrnsberger doubled in a run, Matt Ceriani cashed one with a base hit, and Marcus Nettles grounded out to bring in the sixth run.

In the bottom half of the frame Calgary got a run back when Mark Okano walked, Miller and Rick Guarno singled to load the bases, and Colin Moro hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-3.

Another run was plated in the bottom of the seventh inning when Lentini walked, stole second base, and scored on a Jorge Mejia run batted in single for the 6-4 game.

After the first two batters were retired in the ninth inning Lentini singled and Reyes, on a three-one pitch, nailed a jack out to left-center field.
