Rewind: Recapping Saturday Night's Action in the USHL

Green Bay 5, Madison 2

Green Bay got two goals apiece from Williams Hughes and Libor Nemec in claiming a 5-2 win over Madison.

The visiting Capitols took a 1-0 lead on Jack Brandt's fourth goal of the year at 1:23 of the first, but Hughes tallied a shorthanded marker two minutes later and the game stood 1-1 after one.

Nemec scored twice in the second and after two periods of play the Gamblers led 3-1.

It became a 4-1 Green Bay lead at 1:33 of the third when Blake Bechen scored on the power play. Andrew Kuzma's sixth goal in the last six games cut the deficit to two, but Hughes put the puck into an empty net at 16:08 to dash any hopes.

Adam Gajan stopped 24 of 26 shots in helping the Gamblers up their record to 22-9-3-2 for the year.

Lincoln 7, Omaha 3

Matt Maltais contributed three points on two goals and an assist as Lincoln skated to a 7-2 home win over Omaha.

Justin Mexico's two goals gave the Stars a 2-0 first-period lead, but Omaha bounced back with two goals to start the second when Drew DellaSalla and Christian Kocsis scored before the period was four minutes old. Adam Kleber and Kai Janviriya goals staked Lincoln to a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.

A goal from Juan Copeland and two from Maltais in the third put the game out of reach. Omaha's Will Elger closed out the scoring in the game as the Stars won their second game in a row.

Des Moines 4, Tri-City 3 overtime

Adam Zlnka scored twice and had the game-winner in overtime as Des Moines downed Tri-City 4-3 Friday night.

Recently acquired from Waterloo, Zlnka started the ball rolling when he scored at 7:11 of the opening stanza. It became a 2-0 Des Moines lead two minutes later on a Liam Watkins tally, but Trevor Connelly's 16th goal of the year made it 2-1 and that's how the score stood at the end of the first.

The visiting Bucs took a 3-1 lead on Braedon Ford's goal and when Tri-City forward Cameron Briere scored right before the end of the second, it was 3-2.

Jake Rozzi's goal at 12:16 of the third forced overtime, and Zlnka ended the game when he scored at 3:04 of the extra session.

Including four stops in overtime, Ethan Dahlmeir finished with 37 saves for the victorious Buccaneers.

Waterloo 6, Sioux City 2

A four-goal game from rookie forward John Mustard was the story as Waterloo downed Sioux City 6-2.

Mustard, who leads all USHL rookies with 38 points on 21 goals and 17 assists, gave the host Black Hawks a 1-0 lead when he scored at 1:09 of the opening period.

Goals from Tyler Miller and Mustard made it 3-0 in the second. Max Strand responded for the Musketeers at 13:07, but Mustard scored right before the end of the period as Waterloo regained its three-goal cushion.

Teddy Townsend made it 5-1 midway through the last period of regulation and Kaden Shahan's league-leading 27th goal of the season made it 5-2. Mustard closed it out when he scored into an empty net at 17:10.

Jack Spicer had 25 saves as Waterloo won its 23rd game of the season.

Fargo 6, Sioux Falls 1

Anton Castro was stellar between the pipes and six different players scored as league-leading Fargo earned a 6-1 road win at Sioux Falls.

The Force got goals from Michael La Starza, Harper Bentz, Michael Quinn and Zam Plante in the first period, while Hayden Reid replied for the Stampede.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the second period, but Fargo pulled away when Jake Fisher and Iiro Hakkarainen in the final 20 minutes of action.

Castro stopped 25 shots in helping the Force win for the 33rd time this year.

Youngstown 5, Cedar Rapids 3

Grant Young's hat trick led Youngstown to a 5-3 win over Cedar Rapids.

The visiting RoughRiders took a 2-0 lead on goals from Erik Kald and Elliott Groenewald and after Sam Ranallo tallied for the Phantoms, Cedar Rapids held a 2-1 advantage after the first period of play.

Young, a Harvard commit, and Kuzma Voronin scored 30 seconds apart early in the second and after 40 minutes, Youngstown led 3-2.

Kald's second of the game midway through the third tied it, but Young scored at 10:34 to put the Phantoms up by one and then scored again when he put the puck into an empty net at 19:56 for the game's last goal.

Muskegon 5, Chicago 3

Chicago jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead, but Muskegon scored five straight times the rest of the way to claim the 5-3 road win.

It looked like the Steel might run away with the game after Ben Wilmott, Thor Byfuglien and Mick Thompson tallied in the first seven minutes of the game. Cody Croal stopped the bleeding when he scored at 14:28 and at the end of the first, Chicago held a 3-1 lead.

Sacha Boisvert, Justin Solovey and Ethan Whitcomb scored in the second for Muskegon as the Lumberjacks took a one-goal lead.

Boisvert's 23rd goal of the year, into an empty net at 19:55 of the third, closed things out the scoring in the game.

Shikhabutdin Gadzhiev, who came on in relief in the first period, stopped all 17 shots he faced in the game as Muskegon upped its record to 23-14-1-1 for the season.
