Revs Unable to Cool FerryHawks, Dropping Second Straight

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution dropped their second straight to the red-hot Staten Island FerryHawks, falling 8-4 on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park. The FerryHawks established a first-year franchise record with 18 hits in the victory, remaining tied for first place at 9-2 in the second half.

Staten Island's offense got rolling early as Joseph Monge cracked a solo homer to left center for a 1-0 lead two batters into the game.

The Revs put together back-to-back jacks in the bottom of the second, grabbing a 2-1 advantage. Troy Stokes Jr. launched his eighth homer of the season over the Arch Nemesis in left, and Connor Lien followed with a 406-foot blast to deep left center, his 11th of the season.

Staten Island answered right back with two runs of their own on four consecutive hits in the top of the third. RBI singles from Rusney Castillo and Dilson Herrera lifted the FerryHawks ahead, 3-2.

York loaded the bases on walks in the bottom of the third but could not score, and Staten Island immediately put up four more a half inning later, taking control of the game with a 7-2 lead.

Andres Noriega homered to left to lead off the fourth while Monge drove in another run on an infield hit as part of the outburst. Castillo singled another run home and Herrera added a sac fly.

The Revs got one back in the home fourth as Jack Kenley doubled to right center and scored as Jhon Nunez followed with a double to left, cutting the deficit to 8-3.

Staten Island reliever Eric Marinez silenced the Revs from the fifth inning into the eighth, striking out the first six batters he faced and seven of his first eight while retiring each of his first nine. He combined with starter Anthony Rodriguez to strike out seven consecutive York batters, a Revs franchise record suffered for the fourth time and first since last September.

Marinez (1-2) earned the win in relief and contributed at the plate as the former Oakland Athletics minor league infielder drilled an RBI double to left center in the top of the seventh increasing Staten Island's lead to 8-3.

York loaded the bases against Marinez with two outs in the eighth but lefty Alex Katz entered to induce a ground ball out to end the inning.

Katz opened the ninth with a fly out before walking the bases loaded. Stokes Jr. greeted righty Connor Law with an RBI fielder's choice pulling York within 8-4 before Lien walked to reload the bases and bring the tying run to the plate. Law won a 10-pitch battle with Kenley after seven two-strike fouls to record a game-ending strike out, notching his first save of the season.

Revs starter Austin Nicely (2-8) suffered the loss, charged with seven runs in four innings.

York's bullpen allowed just an unearned run over the final five innings, but the Revs were unable to materialize a comeback, stranding 13 runners on the night and striking out a season-high 14 times.
