York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): The York Revolution have signed three more players for the 2013 season, inking Atlantic League veterans Brian Burgamy, Nick Green, and Juan Rincon to contracts. The signings were announced today by Revs manager Mark Mason.
Burgamy provides the Revolution lineup with a consistent threat to reach base. A First Team Atlantic League All-Star with the Camden Riversharks last season, Burgamy led the circuit in walks (80), finishing in the league's top four in that department for the third consecutive season, and posted the league's second-highest on-base percentage (.409), while batting .294 overall with a career-high 20 home runs. The switch-hitter also came through in the clutch, driving in 81 runs and batting .379 with runners in scoring position.
Burgamy has spent each of the last four seasons with Camden, earning starts in the 2010 and 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Games. He first came to the league in 2008 as a member of the Newark Bears, earning a contract with the New York Mets organization early that season.
A versatile player who has played both infield and outfield throughout his career, Burgamy enters his 12th pro season in 2013. The 31-year-old was originally a ninth-round draft choice of the San Diego Padres in 2002, and has also played in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Green has pitched in the Atlantic League All-Star Game in each of the last two seasons, combining to go 20-16 with a 3.75 ERA for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. An 11-game winner in 2011, Green tied for the third most wins in the league that season, and matched the league's highest total for innings pitched with 150.0 that year. The righty whiffed 122 batters over the course of his 28 starts last season, tying for the third highest strikeout total in the league.
At 28 years old, Green heads into his 10th pro season. He has previously pitched at the Triple-A level in both the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.
Rincon has also starred in the Atlantic League in recent years, serving as closer for the Bridgeport Bluefish during parts of the last two seasons. Rincon saved 23 games for the Bluefish in 2011, the league's second-highest total that year. After beginning last season at Triple-A Salt Lake where he owned a 3.12 ERA, Rincon returned to Bridgeport where he racked up 11 more saves and held a 1.88 ERA in 20 appearances.
The 16-year-pro is coming off a stint in the World Baseball Classic with Team Venezuela, and is a veteran of 10 Major League seasons, having appeared in 444 big league games (35-29, 4.03 ERA). Rincon was among the sport's top setup men as a member of the Minnesota Twins, posting sub-3.00 ERAs in three consecutive seasons from 2004-2006. He earned the fourth-most holds in the American League in 2005 and tied for the third most in 2006.
The signings give the Revs 20 players under contract for the 2013 season, which begins on Opening Night, April 18 at Sovereign Bank Stadium, when the Revs host the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:30 p.m. Full-season, partial-season, and individual tickets are on sale now at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
