Revs Ink Major Speed, Finalize Thurman's Return
(York, Pa.): The pieces of the 2013 York Revolution roster continue to be put in place, with two more signings made official today. The Revs have signed speedy outfielder Tyler Graham, who was in the Major Leagues just last season, while bringing back right-hander Corey Thurman for an unprecedented sixth season in York. The signings were announced by manager Mark Mason, giving the team nine players now officially under contract.
Graham made his Major League debut last season, appearing in 10 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 29-year-old made it to "The Show" after starring for Fresno of the Pacific Coast League over the previous two seasons with San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate. Graham batted .343 and stole 35 bases for Fresno in 2010, before stealing a league-leading 60 bases in 2011. Graham was originally a 19th round draft pick of San Francisco in 2006 out of Oregon State University, where he was a member of the Beavers' College World Series championship team his senior season. The Great Falls, MT native is a career .275 hitter in the minor leagues with 226 stolen bases in seven seasons. He ranked in the top three in his league in stolen bases three times in four years from 2008-2011.
"Tyler adds an element of speed offensively and gives us versatility in the outfield," commented Mason. "I'm going to give him every opportunity to showcase his talents."
Thurman will look to continue his ascent up the Atlantic League's major career pitching charts as the longest-tenured player in Revolution history enters his sixth season with the team. The York resident enters the 2013 season third in league history with 52 victories, 22 away from matching the league's all-time mark. Thurman climbed from just outside of the top ten in league history in wins all the way to third last season alone. He also ranks third with 476 strikeouts, and seventh with 676.0 innings. Thurman ranks first in Revolution history in each of those categories, as well as starts (122) and quality starts (44).
Thurman went 14-3 last season, tying for the league-lead in wins. It followed a 13-3 season in 2011 when he finished just one shy of the league-lead for victories. Those two seasons mark the two winningest seasons by a pitcher in Revolution history, as he has led his team to a combined 41-11 record when on the mound the last two years. He is also the only pitcher in the Atlantic League to have posted double digits in victories in each of the last three seasons.
"'Thurm' is a very dependable starter and a proven winner," said Mason. "I look for him to lead our pitchers with his great work ethic and enthusiasm."
Of the nine players who have signed contracts, six played for the Revs last season.
The 2013 season begins on Opening Night, April 18 at Sovereign Bank Stadium when the Revolution host the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:30 p.m. Full-season, half-season and partial-season ticket plans are on-sale now at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office. Individual tickets go on-sale at 10 a.m. this Saturday, February 9.
