Revs Flame Out after Hot Start, Fall Short of Revenge against Bluefish

York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution kept up in the first inning but could not catch the Bridgeport Bluefish, who put up a pair of four-spots on the way to a 9-3 win on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs (31-25) have now lost their third straight series, the first to the Bluefish (24-32), but still lead the Freedom Division by 2.5 games after Lancaster's walk-off loss at Long Island.

The Bluefish got off to a fast start against York starter Michael Click as Luis Hernandez led off the game with a double. After a groundout and a lineout, Jose Cuevas singled Hernandez home to break the ice. Jonathan Galvez then walked and Josh Vitters singled home another run. That brought up Anthony Giansanti, who tagged a ball to right center for a two-run double to make it 4-0.

York responded immediately, as three straight singles by Travis Witherspoon, Michael Rockett, and Joel Guzman broke up the shutout before Bridgeport starter Jonathan Albaladejo could record an out. Telvin Nash and Andres Perez drew back-to-back walks to force in Rockett, then Michael Burgess lifted a sac fly to right to plate Guzman and make it 4-3. Albaladejo buckled down for back-to-back strikeouts to limit the damage.

Click (1-2) settled down and pitched into the fourth without allowing another run. He allowed four runs on five hits in 3.2 innings before handing it off to Mariel Checo to finish the fourth.

Welington Dotel cleared the Arch Nemesis with a two-run homer in the fifth. After a couple strikeouts, a single, and a hit batsman, the Bluefish got two more on a Revs defensive lapse. Rossmel Perez singled to right to score one run. Catcher Keith Castillo cut off the throw and was looking to second, allowing another man to come home when nobody was covering the plate. Perez went to second base, also unoccupied, and Bridgeport took an 8-3 lead.

Galvez doubled and Vitters singled him home in the ninth to give the Bluefish one more insurance run.

Albaladejo (5-2) settled down after a rough first for five solid innings, giving up just the three runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out five on 117 pitches.

The Revs had their share of chances but left 12 on base, including five in the first two innings. York loaded the bases with one out in the second, but Nash struck out looking and Andrez Perez flew out to right to end the threat.

York got runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, coming away empty-handed every time.

Vitters led the bluefish attack, going 3-for-5 with pairs of runs and RBIs. Galvez added two hits and two runs himself.

Rockett finished the game 3-for-5 with a run, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Witherspoon also added three hits and a run.

Notes: Rockett is hitting .395 (15-38) during his 10-game hitting streak, tied for the fourth longest by a Rev this season. Major league veteran relievers Manny Corpas and Jose Arredondo each made their York debuts on the afternoon. The Revs played as "The Revengers" this afternoon and auctioned off their jerseys and caps with proceeds going to York Rescue Mission. The Revs will begin a three-game home series against the Long Island Ducks on Monday. York righty Micah Owings (2-3, 4.12) faces Ducks southpaw Jack Snodgrass (5-4, 2.97) in the series opener. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Monday marks Engineering Night at PeoplesBank Park. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
