York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution suffered a series sweep, falling 10-5 to the Long Island Ducks on Sunday evening in front of 4,247 at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will look to get it back in gear on Monday when they continue their homestand with the opening game of a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
Lew Ford led off the game for the Ducks with a homerun to left-center, and Johnny Hernandez opened the second inning with a homer to right. Ford later ripped an RBI single into left, as the Ducks had a 3-0 lead before the top of the second was complete.
The Revs got on the board with a second inning run on a double play, and pulled within 3-2 on Keoni DeRenne's two-out RBI double to right field in the third.
The Ducks created some breathing room, however, in the fourth with three unearned runs. After a two-out error that led to a run, Ray Navarette slammed an RBI single high off the Arch Nemesis, chasing Revs starter Roberto Sotolongo (0-1). Victor Rodriguez then made it 6-2 on an RBI single to right, greeting reliever Jason Kershner.
The Revs earned one back in the fifth on another RBI from DeRenne, this time a single to right.
Navarette dealt perhaps the finishing blow, however, in the sixth with a three-run homer to right-center, his 19th of the season.
Matt Esquivel continued his torrid pace with a homerun to left-center in the sixth. He finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and the homerun, which was the 23rd of his Revs career, moving him past Nate Espy for third all-time. It was also his fourth homer in the last four games, giving him 10 for the season, which ties Tom Collaro for the club lead.
Long Island added one more in the seventh on an RBI single from Juan Francia.
Esquivel finished the scoring with an RBI double off the wall in deep right-center in the eighth.
Notes: Ducks starter Randy Leek was ejected by home plate umpire Eric Diaz after the third inning for arguing the strike zone. Robert Paulk (3-4) was credited with the win, allowing just one run in 2.1 innings. Esquivel now owns a five-game hitting streak, during which he is 10-for-20 with four homeruns, two doubles, and a triple. Jason Olson struck out the side in order in the eighth inning. Ford led the Ducks attack going 3-for-3 with a homer, two walks, two RBI and three runs. He finished the series 9-for-12 with six runs, four RBI, two stolen bases, and reached base 11 times in the three games. The Revs entered the weekend 13-4 all-time against Long Island at home, but lost all three. Bob Zimmermann will face Keith Ramsey in Monday's opener against Southern Maryland at 7 p.m. It is a Monkey Magic Monday, and gates will open at 6 p.m.
