York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution continued to score runs and an eye-popping rate, blowing out the Bridgeport Bluefish 17-4 in front of 3,792 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, sweeping a second consecutive series, and extending the winning streak to a club record-tying eight games in-a-row. The Revs also pull within one game of Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division. York concludes its 11-game homestand on Monday at 6:30 p.m. against the Road Warriors in a rescheduled contest from an earlier rainout.
Val Majewski blasted two homeruns and tied a Revs record by scoring five runs in a game, while Eric Eymann went 4-for-5 with a club record-tying three doubles, and a season-high six RBI.
The Revs fell behind by multiple runs for the first time on the winning streak, as Bridgeport scored two in the first on a Luis Lopez RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Steve Moss.
York answered with two in the second, before exploding for five in the third and never looking back.
Eymann got York on the board with his first RBI double, which was followed by an RBI single from Octavio Martinez to tie the game at 2-2.
Majewski drove in the go-ahead run on a single in the third, Chris Nowak singled home another run, and Eymann ripped a two-run double to right-center. Chris Walker legged out an attempted double play, driving in the fifth run of the inning on a fielder's choice to make it 7-2.
Majewski slammed a solo homer to right-center with two outs in the fourth as the lead grew further.
The big hits kept coming as Ramon Castro drove in another run on a double to right field in the bottom of the fifth, and Eymann cleared the bases with a three-run double to left-center in the bottom of the sixth.
Already armed with a 12-3 lead, the Revs scored their second five-run inning of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Majewski launched his second homerun of the game to left-center to kick off the inning. Walker drove in his second run on a fielder's choice, and Liubiemithz Rodriguez capped the Revs' huge day with a three-run homer to right, his first of the year, giving him 102 RBI in his Atlantic League career.
Revs starter Matt DeSalvo (3-3) earned the win, allowing three runs in six innings while striking out seven. He threw a season-high 126 pitches, and only allowed one further run on a homer to left field by Lopez in the fifth.
Bridgeport scored a ninth inning run on a sac fly to right by Adam Greenberg.
Notes: Majewski is the first Revs batter to score five in a game since Nate Espy did it in the Revs' first ever win, May 9, 2007 at Camden. it was the third time in six games and second consecutive game that Majewski scored at least three times. Eymann joins Castro (May 11, 2010 at Long Island) as the only Revs to hit three doubles in one game. his six RBI game marked the sixth time in the last 13 games that a Revs batter drove in at least four. Eymann now has 18 RBI in his last eight games, and 24 RBI in 17 home games on the season. The bottom four batters in the Revs order combined to go 13-for-18 with 11 RBI and 11 runs. Eight of nine starters had a hit, and over the last three games, 26 of 27 York starters have hit safely. Every starter scored for the second consecutive game. Jose Herrera (1-for-5) extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games, York's second longest this season. Eymann now has an 11-game streak. Majewski's multi-homer game was his second in six nights, and he now has an eight-game hitting streak. James Shanks (1-for-5) extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games. Vince Harrison, who had the day off, also has a seven-game streak, giving York five players who currently have hitting streaks of seven games or longer. York established a season-high in runs for the second consecutive game (15 last night), while setting season bests in hits (20), doubles (six), extra-base hits (nine), and total bases (35). The Revs enjoyed their most lopsided victory of the season for the fourth time in the last five games (won by 13 for the second consecutive night). York has now outscored opponents 72-19 on the eight-game winning streak, 53-10 over the last four contests, and 32-6 the last two nights (out-hit Bridgeport 35-16 in those two games). It was the first time since September 11, 2010 vs. Lancaster that the Revs scored five or more runs in an inning twice in the same game. It's the second time this season that the Revs have earned back-to-back sweeps. The Revs are a season-high nine games over .500 at 29-20, and are now 20-10 at home. Their one-game division deficit with 14 remaining in the season's first half marks the closest the race has been since May 14. York tied a club record with its ninth win of a single homestand (now 9-1). The Revs have hit 16 homeruns in 10 games on the homestand, with multiple homers in five of those games. York is now 12-1 when hitting more than one homerun this season. It's York's fourth series sweep of the season, and third all-time against the Bluefish. The Revs now lead the league with a .288 team batting average. York lefty Chris Cody (5-3, 4.69) will face Road Warriors righty Kevin Mannix (0-2, 6.20) in the final game of the homestand on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Fans who bring a donation of gently-used sporting goods to the ballpark benefit Alabama tornado victims and receive free admission to the game.
