(York, Pa.): The two-time defending Atlantic League champion York Revolution have acquired left-handed pitcher Yunior Novoa who spent last season with Lancaster, in a three-way deal involving the Barnstormers and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, it was announced today by manager Andy Etchebarren. The addition of Novoa gives the Revs 13 players under contract for the upcoming season, including seven pitchers.

The Revs initially dealt the rights to infielder Eric Eymann to Southern Maryland in exchange for infielder Kody Kirkland. York then shipped Kirkland to Lancaster to acquire Novoa.

The 27-year-old Novoa went 5-5 with a 5.33 ERA for the Barnstormers last season while holding different roles at one time or another, making 13 starts in addition to 20 appearances in relief. The 6'4 lefty enjoyed a stretch from June 18 through July 19 where he allowed just two earned runs in 21.2 innings, and finished the season with 76 strikeouts to only 24 walks in 82.2 total innings of work. He was particularly tough against the team that he'll now be joining, going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in four appearances against York.

"I like the fact that he can pitch as a starter or a reliever," said Etchebarren. "He had some success doing both and was very tough against us last year. He's also a good control guy with pretty good stuff."

The Dominican Republic native began his career in the Chicago White Sox organization in 2003, and also spent five seasons in the Washington Nationals farm system. Novoa reached Triple-A Syracuse in 2009, after combining to post a 2.08 ERA with Potomac and Harrisburg the year before.

The Revs will begin their quest to become the first team in Atlantic League history to win three consecutive league championships on April 26 with a visit to Sugar Land, Texas to open the season against the expansion Skeeters. York's home opener at Sovereign Bank Stadium is set for Tuesday, May 1 against the Camden Riversharks when the Revs honor last year's championship team with a pregame ring ceremony on the field.
