FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution Under-14 midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson (Worthington, Mass.) is among the 36 players called in by U.S. Under-14 Boys' National Team head coach Tony Lepore for a week-long camp, which begins Saturday, Feb. 1, and continues through Sunday, Feb. 9, in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Throughout the week, the U14s will train twice daily on either side of a break from their schoolwork. The group will also play a pair of friendly matches against local club teams on Wednesday, Feb. 5, as well as scrimmage a U.S. Residency Program team on Saturday, Feb. 8.
"Amos has worked extremely hard, has a real passion for the game and has thrived this season with our U14 team under Gary Hall," said Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales. "I know he'll make the most of his opportunity and enjoy the experience with the other top players at this national team camp."
This is Shapiro-Thompson's first call-up to camp with the U14s, and he is one of 29 players that play on clubs in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
Shapiro-Thompson, 14, is in his first season with the Revolution Academy. During the fall portion of the 2013-14 season, the midfielder made eight appearances - including five starts - with the Under-14 team, scoring one goal and adding three assists. Currently on winter hiatus, the Revolution U14s will resume play on Saturday, March 1, 2014, against BSC CT Academy in Bridgeport, Conn.
