New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - For the fourth straight year, the New England Revolution and Chicago Fire will meet in the MLS Cup Playoffs, beginning with Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Gillette Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of its season-long Primetime Thursday lineup, with a live half-hour pregame show beginning at 7:30 p.m. and kickoff set for approximately 8 p.m. Radio listeners can tune into a live English broadcast on the WEEI Radio Network, while ESPN Deportes Radio will carry the game nationally in Spanish.

An intense rivalry has developed between New England and Chicago, stoked by repeated postseason encounters. This will be the sixth time in the last seven years - and the seventh time overall - that the Revs and Fire meet in the postseason; the two clubs have previously met in the 2000, 2002-03, and 2005-07 playoffs. The Revolution owns the edge in overall playoff series victories, having advanced past Chicago four times in the previous six encounters, including each of the last three years on the way to the MLS Cup Final.

Perhaps the most thrilling playoff meeting between the two clubs came in last season's Eastern Conference Final at Gillette Stadium, when Taylor Twellman's spectacular bicycle kick earned the Revolution a 1-0 victory and sent the club to its third consecutive MLS Cup Final.

If the Revs are to advance past Chicago once again this season, they'll have to overcome a Fire club that they struggled with in three regular-season meetings in 2008. Chicago swept the season series with New England, winning all three matches by a combined score of 9-1.
