Revolution to battle Galaxy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Tied atop the overall MLS standings with nine games remaining in the regular season, the New England Revolution continues its drive towards the playoffs when the club hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Gillette Stadium. TV38 (and Cox3 in Rhode Island) will televise the game live beginning at 7:30 p.m., while HDNet will carry the game nationally in high definition. Radio listeners can catch the action on the WEEI Radio Network.

The Revolution (11-6-4, 37 pts.) will be excited to play in front of the home crowd in Foxborough, as the club recently returned from a six-day road trip that included matches in Canada and Trinidad. On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Revs earned a hard-fought, 1-1 draw with Eastern Conference rival Toronto FC at BMO Field, while the club opened play in the CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-1 loss to Joe Public FC in Trinidad three days later. Los Angeles (6-9-6, 24 pts.) - featuring international icon David Beckham and U.S. national team star Landon Donovan - is just three points out of second place in the Western Conference, despite going winless in its last nine matches.

Another reason that New England will be glad to play at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night is the historical home field advantage that has existed throughout the course of the Revs-Galaxy series. Perhaps struggling with the necessary cross-country trip and three-hour time difference, each team has had difficulty earning results on the road against the other. The Revs are 8-4-1 in regular-season home matches against the Galaxy - including 5-0-1 at Gillette Stadium since the venue opened in 2002 - and haven't lost to LA in Foxborough since July 11, 1999. On the other hand, New England is 4-8-3 all-time at Los Angeles, although the club is 3-0-1 in its last four trips to The Home Depot Center.
