"Revolution Ringers" To Participate In Kickball Tournament

(York, Pa): The Downtown Kickball Tournament, presented by Downtown Inc will take place this Saturday, October 4 at Sovereign Bank Stadium, home of the York Revolution. Businesses and groups will be competing for the title of best adult kickball team in York. Proceeds will support Downtown Inc's mission to champion the downtown experience.
The York Revolution front office staff is also proud to announce the addition of Wayne Franklin and Corey Thurman to their team. Both are veteran pitchers with experience at the Major League level, experience which should serve them well when faced with the pressures of an inter-company kickball tournament.
"Of course the goal of an event like this is to have fun," said Revolution General Manager Matt O'Brien. "Well to us, winning is the most fun and I think the addition of Corey and Wayne will put us over the top."
Thurman is a 13-year veteran of professional baseball, which includes parts of two seasons in the major leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays. Thurman appeared in 49 games for Toronto between 2002 and 2003. He spent the entire 2008 season with the Revolution, making a team high 29 starts, throwing a team high 165.1 innings. Thurman finished the season tied for fourth in the Atlantic League in strikeouts with 129, and was also named ALPB Pitcher of the Month for June.
"I'm excited; I finally get to show off my legs instead of my arm. I'm going to show everyone my Matt Padgett-like kicking skills," said Thurman.
Franklin, a 12-year pro, has 143 games of Major League experience between 2000 and 2006 with the Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves, including 40 starts. Franklin is the Revolution's all-time leader in wins, with a 20-8 career record in the Atlantic League. The lefty went 12-5 for the Revs this season, and 8-3 in 2007. Franklin holds a career record of 77-52.
"This is like going back to the old school days, playing kickball in-between games of Asteroids and Space Invaders. Nothin' like Atari and Kickball," said Franklin.
The tournament will run from 9 a.m. until approximately 7 p.m. Team Revolution will be taking the field from 11-11:30 a.m., 12:30-1 p.m., 1-1:30 p.m. and 1:30-2 p.m. Each game is either five innings, or a half hour. Concessions will be open, there will be live music, and raffle tickets will be available for your chance to win downtown York items and experiences. The event will be followed by an after party at White Rose Bar & Grill, where an official trophy presentation will take place, more live music and tons of good cheer.
