December 28, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release

Foxborough, Mass.- The New England Revolution announced today that the team has re-signed midfielder/defender and club captain Joe Franchino and U.S. National Team forward Pat Noonan. Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The 2007 season will be Franchino's seventh season with the Revolution and Noonan's fifth with the team. Franchino, 30, is the longest-tenured member of the Revolution, having joined the club through the MLS Special Draft on May 17, 2000. He is one of five players to have played in and started each of the Revolution's three MLS Cup appearances (2002, 2005, 2006), and has made four total appearances in the league's championship game, including a trip with Los Angeles in 1998. He has been the team's captain since the 2002 season.

Franchino appeared in 21 regular season games for the Revolution in 2006, seeing time at left back, left-sided midfield and at central midfield. Though injuries caused him to miss 10 games during the season, Franchino started all four of the Revs' playoffs games as a midfielder.

Entering the 2007 season, Franchino shares the club record for games started (155) with Jay Heaps, and is second to Heaps in games played (158) and minutes played (13,626).

Noonan, 26, was drafted by the Revolution in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft out of collegiate power Indiana University. In 92 career MLS games, Noonan has scored 30 goals and added 25 assists, to rank third and fourth, respectively, in the Revolution record book. In 2004, Noonan won MLS' Budweiser Scoring Championship with 11 goals and eight assists after he was a finalist for the 2003 MLS Gatorade Rookie of the Year award.

An active member of the U.S. Men's National Team pool, Noonan has earned 13 caps and scored one goal for the U.S. He was an alternate for the U.S.'s 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, and was recently called into the January 2007 national team camp that will start the 2010 World Cup qualifying cycle. Noonan was also a member of the U.S.'s 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning team.

Noonan saw limited action in 2006 because of multiple injuries, but scored one goal - the game-winning goal against New York on Sept. 9 - and added three assists in 14 appearances with the Revs. Noonan also appeared in three of the Revolution's four postseason games - including a start in MLS Cup 2006 - scoring the series-tying goal versus Chicago in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and adding an assist on Taylor Twellman's game-winning goal against D.C. United in the Eastern Conference Championship.

Revolution 4-Packs are on-sale now for a limited time. Each 4-pack includes one ticket to the Revolution's home opener doubleheader on April 14 - featuring the Revs against expansion club Toronto FC following the United States Women's National Team in an international friendly match.
