York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): The York Revolution has added to the planned fundraising activities at the May 17 "Emergency Responder Night" game that has been dedicated to the memory of Chief Rodney Miller. All proceeds of fundraising activities at the game will be given to Chief Miller's family and the Loganville Fire Company to use at their discretion to help memorialize the life and legacy of Chief Miller, who was killed by an alleged drunk driver while directing traffic at an accident scene on April 27.
In addition to being at the game to "pass the boot" for fan donations, fire companies, ambulance services and police departments from throughout York County are donating hats to be worn by Revolution players at the game. The players will autograph the hats, and they will be auctioned at the game, with one hundred percent of the proceeds being donated to the family and fire company.
Revolution President & General Manager Eric Menzer called the hat auction "a way to commemorate the fact that within the emergency responder community, there is a common bond. I sent a single e-mail asking for help with this idea, and within an hour I started receiving responses from all over York County of people wanting to donate hats. It's indicative of that bond and of the warm feelings people have for Chief Miller."
In addition, Revolution business partner Penn Waste will match all fan contributions, up to $5,000.
"That's another great example of the way people have responded to this initiative," said Menzer. "I was e-mailing some of our business partners asking for help spreading the word, and Penn Waste owner Scott Wagner immediately replied with this incredibly generous offer," said Menzer. "Penn Waste has been a great partner of ours from the start, and this is a great example of a local company responding to a local need," said Menzer. "Both the Revolution and Scott are committed to local relationships and York County communities as the foundation of our businesses, and this is a great example of putting your money where your mouth is."
During the game, fans may donate at designated tables on the stadium concourse once gates open and throughout the game. The Revs have teamed-up with York County's Center for Traffic Safety and will donate $5.00 of every individual May 17 game ticket sold to efforts to fight drunk driving in York County.
Money donated through this program will also support efforts to revive the "Community Forum Against Underage Drinking," a program that the Center had to bring to an end in 2010 after 15 years due to a lack of funding.
