New England Revolution II News Release

KENNESAW, G.A. - New England Revolution II (1-0-0, 3 pts.) opened its 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season with a 3-2 win over Atlanta United 2 (0-1-0, 0 pts.) on Sunday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Midfielder Jake Rozhansky caused an own goal off a cross and went on to score another tally later in the match, while 15-year-old Revolution Academy defender Peyton Miller logged the full 90 minutes. Miller became the youngest player in team history to make his professional debut with Revolution II.

New England found the scoresheet first as Rozhansky sent a cross in following a corner kick and the ball deflected off Atlanta's Aiden McFadden to give Revolution II a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Rozhansky doubled New England's lead in the 52nd minute, sailing the ball in from outside of the box to the top left corner of the net, securing the defensive midfielder's first goal with Revolution II. Cayet added to the scoring in the 60th minute, heading home a corner to seal the game-winner and the first three points of the 2023 season.

New England returns to action on Sunday, April 2 as Revolution II kicks off its home slate by hosting New York City FC II at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. with the match streaming live on MLSNEXTPro.com.

POSTGAME QUOTES: New England Revolution II 3 at Atlanta United 2 2

Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay

On his assessment of his team's performance:

Peay: "I thought the guys really worked hard. We were committed to how we wanted to play, sticking to our identity, and that was a good result for us. I thought it was deserved, and just proud of the effort because it's difficult coming down from the Northeast early in the season where there's a little bit more heat and we asked a lot of the guys and I thought they fought through until the end."

On Jake Rozhansky:

Peay: "Yeah, so [Jake Rozhansky] is a special player for us in the terms that he helps dictate the tempo. He's great with decisions on the ball. Good to see him on the scoresheet tonight for a change. I think he's got more of that in him, so I can't say enough. Great leader, great player."

On Peyton Miller making his professional debut:

Peay: "Yeah, [Peyton Miller] has got a lot of energy. We see a lot of promise in him. He's got the athletic qualities we think are going to be a difference maker for him and he's just growing and absorbing all the information that we give him every day. And yeah, I think he's going to be a special one for us."

On goalkeeper Nico Campuzano's debut with Revolution II:

Peay: "Yeah, strong performance. I thought [Nico Campuzano] made some good plays in terms of dealing with crosses and things of that nature, good with distribution for the most part for us. I thought he was steady and can't really fault him for the goals, but strong type of performance that we hope to get from our goalkeepers."

Revolution Academy Defender Peyton Miller

On making his professional debut:

Miller: "I was definitely excited stepping onto the field, and I was nervous, but those nerves went away as soon as the whistle blew. It was great to play in front of all those fans and get the victory."

On the work the team put in during preseason to secure their first win of the season:

Miller: "The team worked hard this preseason, and it was a great result. We all worked hard for this one."

On how the Revolution Academy prepared him for his pro debut:

Miller: "It's a very good environment. Everyone works hard, plays hard. The coaches all help, very good coaching. My teammates push me to be my best every single day."

On his performance:

Miller: "I thought I had my first good 90 and I think the team had a great effort, and the team came out with three points today."

Revolution II Midfielder Jake Rozhansky

On his first goal with Revolution II:

Rozhansky: "Yeah, I think Peyton [Miller] crossed the ball across the field towards Malcolm [Fry]. The defender headed it out, but once he had some air on the header, I had time to take it down and then Malcolm was to my right and actually, I originally wanted to pass it to Malcolm, but both defenders went to Malcolm, so the inside opened up to my inside to my left and I hit it."

On Peyton Miller:

Rozhansky: "I thought [Peyton Miller] was excellent tonight especially for his first game. You saw at the end, his play to hold the ball in the corner was huge for us and that solidified the win for us, but he was running all day. He definitely didn't look his age today."

On building off the momentum ahead of the team's home opener next week:

Rozhansky: "It was a great win. I think we could have solidified this game earlier at 3-0. I think we should have kept it there, but it's lessons to learn from, and it's a good start this season, so we got to keep going."
