New England Revolution II News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution II (7-7-2, 23 pts.) scored two goals in the final five minutes to tie the Richmond Kickers (5-6-6, 21 pts.) on the road Saturday night, 2-2. Noel Buck and Edward Kizza scored goals in the 86th and 87th minutes, respectively, tallying 89 seconds apart to erase a two-goal deficit. Emiliano Terzaghi scored both goals for Richmond on the night.

After a one-hour weather delay, Richmond got the scoring started with Terzaghi finishing off a cross from Matthew Bolduc in the 26th minute. Terzaghi would score again early in the second half, finding the back of the net from over 30 yards out.

New England piled up the chances late, with several attacking set pieces and scoring chances that forced Richmond goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald to make six saves. Revolution Academy product Noel Buck matched Terzaghi's long-range effort with his fourth goal of the season, tied for the team lead, to cut the deficit in half. Forward Meny Silva, also a Revs Academy grad, recorded his first career assist on Buck's tally.

Moments later, Edward Kizza headed home a cross from Justin Rennicks to level the match. Kizza, the Revolution's first-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Pittsburgh, has tallied three goals in his last two games.

New England will return to action on Saturday, August 21 with another road trip to face South Georgia Tormenta FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

16-year-old midfielder Noel Buck (2005 - Arlington, Mass.) scored his joint-team-leading fourth goal of the season in a 90-minute effort, finishing the night with two shots on target and a team high three key passes.

Forward Edward Kizza scored his third goal in the last two games, which was the latest equalizer in Revolution II history. Kizza had a team-high three shots on target and added one key pass.

Forward Meny Silva (2002 - Roxbury, Mass.), also a graduate of the Revolution Academy, recorded his first professional assist on Buck's tally.

Forward Justin Rennicks recorded his third assist of the season on Kizza's equalizer. Rennicks created three chances on the night and won nine duels.

POSTGAME QUOTES:

New England Revolution II 2 vs. Richmond Kickers 2

New England Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay

On Saturday night's match:

Peay: "I'm incredibly proud of the effort. I though the guys kept pushing. The guys that came off the bench, especially unexpectedly due to some of the injuries, came in and worked hard and, as a starting point, that's all I can ask of the guys. I'm proud to get a point on the road and proud of the way the guys kept fighting."

On Richmond's physical style of play:

Peay: "At times and in individual duels, they get a piece of you and they make it hard so they disrupt your rhythm. But I still thought we were able to comfortably move the ball. It was more a matter of just sorting some things out of halftime in terms of positioning and spacing for our guys to give us more of an opportunity to advance the ball in good spots in the final third."

On keeping the team focused during the weather delay:

Peay: "We knew coming in that there would probably be some sort of delay, so it wasn't unexpected and we had sort of prepared for that. The guys just kept busy, different ways for guys to do it, be it music or guys messing around with the balls, but it didn't affect us I don't think."

On Meny Silva:

Peay: "I thought [Meny Silva] brought energy. I thought he was better with the ball than he has been in some previous games and he made a difference in that regard. So again, I thought, like I said, the guys who came off the bench, I thought they were all very influential in different ways and helped us get the point tonight."

On two late goals in two minutes:

Peay: "I thought it was coming before that. We had numerous balls that flashed across the six and just we weren't maybe in the greatest position and capitalize. But we were knocking on a door I thought, and something was coming, we just had to keep pushing. Obviously, that's a terrific strike from a young player [Noel Buck], so I'm very happy for him. And to tie the game, [Justin] Rennicks put in a great ball and [Edward] Kizza was in a good spot and headed it home. Again, the effort was good and happy to see the guys keep fighting until the end."

On getting a result after trailing:

Peay: "It's massive psychologically. The guys realized if you give up a goal first, it doesn't mean you're going to lose the game. So, we've got a chance and if we can continue to push and execute and capitalize on opportunities, we have a chance to get back into the game and potentially win it."

New England Revolution II Defender Ryan Spaulding

On fighting back after falling behind by two goals:

Spaulding: "There was still a lot of time left in the game. We knew exactly what they're going to do once they scored that second goal -- they were going to sit back and try to make us play through them. So, I think we kind of decided to switch up how we went about it and get the ball from one side to the other, get at them fast, and get shots. I thought our subs did a phenomenal job keeping the energy high when they got in and just bringing fresh legs to the game, it definitely helped us out."

On carrying possession for much of the contest:

Spaulding: "I mean, possession is possession, but it's not going to win you the game. We know against Richmond; they're going to sit back and force us to create things. So, I think that's just been working on this whole week, just getting from one side to the other, quick combinations, getting in behind them, and then of course, getting shots and good chances are super important against them."

On scoring two goals late to equalize:

Spaulding: "We just never give up as a team. Like I said, there was a lot of time left after [Richmond] scored that second goal. We knew we had more in us, we have more to give, and it's great when you see two goals go in that quick. I think, especially after Noel [Buck] scored his goal, that really gave the guys a huge boost. We were like, okay let's at least go and get a point out of this game."

On the result providing a boost moving forward:

Spaulding: "It's definitely huge. Obviously before, we always try to stay in games. We thought it was possible. But then after really grinding it out and getting the point here, we showed and we proved to ourselves that we really can do this. Even if we go down one goal, two goals, we can get back in the game even on the road in a hostile environment like here in Richmond."
