POSTGAME QUOTES: New England Revolution II 0, New York City FC II 4

New England Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay

On his assessment of the game:

Peay: "For sure, a very poor start by us. I thought the negative play by us and the giveaway obviously led to their free kick. I did not think it was a free kick. I thought that was wrong. I thought the guys had some very good spells and created some very good chances, particularly in the first half, but we were not good enough on the day and ended up conceding and losing."

On what the message to the team was at halftime:

Peay: "I think the encouraging thing was we felt like we did play a pretty good first half in terms of moving the ball and creating chances, putting them under pressure. We had to get a little better defensively, so I thought we made some changes to the front that I think helped us be a little bit more organized and that helped."

On playing with seven first team players:

Peay: "I think that it's always difficult with those guys because they're not necessarily with us all the time, but the effort was good. I thought Damian Rivera was particularly good coming off the bench."

New England Revolution II Midfielder Jake Rozhansky

On his assessment of the game:

Rozhansky: "Terrible start. I think from the kickoff, we made I think two bad passes. From there it was giveaway foul, and then a goal immediately within the first or second minute, and then just mistakes. I feel like maybe one of the penalties was unlucky, but we can't give up three penalties in a half. That's on me, that's on everybody on the field, but honestly in the first half I thought we had some chances. I thought we had good spells. I think we were just too open at the back when we lost the ball in not good areas for us. They had counters where we were very open, and it caused a lot of running for us, and we were just sprinting back trying to catch them along, and I think that ended up catching up to us."

On what the team could learn from the loss:

Rozhansky: "It's a wakeup call honestly because when you don't come into the game in the right mindset, the right way, it could get away from you fast. I think that's what we saw today, nd they're a good team and I don't even think they're in first place right now. They're a very good team, so it's a tight league, and we if we don't take care of business and come into games the right way, we're going to get beat."
