New England Revolution II News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution II announced today several updates to the club's second team coaching staff for the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. Following Clint Peay's move to New England's first team as an assistant coach, Richie Williams assumes the role of Revolution II Head Coach. Marcelo Santos steps into the Associate Head Coach role after the last four years as an assistant coach, while Goalkeeper Coach Yuta Nomura and Sports Performance Coach Pablo Di Benedetto also remain with the team. Finally, Brandon Miskin has been promoted to Director of Soccer Operations - Revolution II.
"We are excited to have this staff of skilled and experienced coaches in place as we get set to begin the Revolution II preseason," Sporting Director Curt Onalfo stated. "Coming off a record-setting year for our second team, a second MLS NEXT Cup Championship, and adding three more Homegrown Players to the first team roster, we are more confident than ever in the fact that our pro pathway is preparing these young players for the next stage of their careers. We are eager to see that growth continue in 2024."
Williams becomes head coach of the second team after spending the last five seasons with the New England Revolution as an assistant coach. While on the club's first team coaching staff, Williams helped the Revolution to four postseason berths, a 2021 Supporters' Shield title, and an appearance in the 2020 Eastern Conference Final. Williams joins the Revolution II staff with more than 17 years of coaching experience, previously serving as head coach for Loudoun United FC of the USL Championship. The Middletown Township, N.J. native has also served as an assistant with Real Salt Lake, the New York Red Bulls, the United States Men's National Team, and at the University of Virginia, his alma mater.
Santos earns promotion to Associate Head Coach following four seasons as an assistant coach under Clint Peay with Revolution II. He joined New England's second team after coaching at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels within the Revolution Academy beginning in 2018. In 2023, Santos helped Revolution II to its most points, wins, and goals scored in a season as the team clinched a spot in the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs, advancing to the Eastern Conference Championship. Prior to his time in New England, Santos spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach for the Marquette University men's soccer team.
Nomura enters his fifth season with Revolution II as the second team's goalkeeper coach. Prior to joining New England, Nomura spent the 2018-19 seasons as an assistant and goalkeeper coach with the University of Central Arkansas where he helped guide the team to a 2018 Missouri Valley Conference title and a berth in the D-I NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. Prior to his coaching days, the native of Tokyo, Japan played professionally in Sweden for BK Olympic, based out of Malmö, from 2017-18.
Di Benedetto begins his third season with Revolution II after joining the Revolution Academy in April 2021 as Sports Performance Coach. He began his career in sports performance in London, working within Football Strength Conditioning & Rehabilitation (FSCR) after graduating from Middlebury College in 2020. He has since earned his CSCS Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and CFSC Certified Functional Strength Coach Level 1 and 2 certifications as well as completion in Víctor Frade's Master in Tactical Periodization course.
Miskin steps into the Director of Soccer Operations - Revolution II role after having served as the team administrator and soccer operations specialist since the second team's inaugural season in 2020. The Needham, Mass. native graduated from Brandeis University in 2018 after playing four seasons on the Judges' men's soccer team.
Revolution II will begin the 2024 preseason in Foxborough before traveling to Bradenton, Fla. for training camp through mid-February.
