April 1, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, Cozi TV, 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio (Portuguese).
The Revolution, 1-2-1 in MLS play this season, return to action following the international break for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. During the break, the U.S. Men's National Team and Adam Buksa's Poland secured their berths in the World Cup in Qatar this November. New England is aiming to bounce back into the win column following defeats to Real Salt Lake, Pumas UNAM, and Charlotte FC before the bye. The Revolution have enjoyed recent success against New York as they swept the season series in 2021, 3-0-0. New England leads the all-time series in Foxborough with a 25-6-8 record, while Bruce Arena carries a 14-10-5 career record against his former team.
All three of New England's Designated Players - midfielder Carles Gil, and forwards Gustavo Bou and Adam Buksa - have performed well against the Red Bulls during their Revolution tenures. Gil, who leads New England's attack with two goals this season, owns eight assists in six career appearances against New York, including a three-assist outing last May. Bou has netted a team-high five goals in five career games played against the Red Bulls. Buksa, who earned his seventh cap for Poland when they clinched a spot in the FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win over Sweden on Tuesday, has scored twice against New York in five appearances.
Also in the attack, forward Jozy Altidore owns three goals and one assist against the club with which he made his MLS debut under Arena, then the Red Bulls manager, in 2006. Altidore made his first start in a Revolution uniform in New England's most recent MLS match at Charlotte FC on March 19, logging a full 90 minutes.
New England's defense used the international break to return closer to full strength, as central defenders Andrew Farrell and Henry Kessler both rejoined training this week to bolster the Revolution backline. Farrell, three starts away from his 275th in MLS, has missed the last two matches while Kessler, a New York native who developed in the Red Bulls Academy, is eyeing his first action since sustaining an injury in the season opener.
New England Amputee Soccer Team Match
During halftime of Saturday's game, the New England Amputee Soccer Team will play an exhibition match on the Gillette Stadium turf. The exhibition match is one facet of the New England Revolution's ongoing partnership with the New England Amputee Soccer Team. Each year, the Revolution outfit the amputee team with customized uniforms and cleats. To kick off the team's 2022 season, the Revolution provided funding equivalent to 16 weeks of training field time. Three members of the New England Amputee Soccer Team- co-founder Nico Calabria, Corey Laycock, and Vinny Fischer - feature for the U.S. Men's Amputee Soccer Team that qualified for the 2022 World Cup earlier this month.
