New England heads into the midweek match in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings following Sunday's 2-1 loss to the LA Galaxy. With a win on Wednesday night, New England could climb as high as sixth place in the table. Four of the Revolution's final seven games are at home, with six contests against Eastern Conference opponents. The latest loss to the Galaxy snapped a nine-game home unbeaten streak, though the Revolution will still look to collect points for the 10th time in the last 11 home games.

Midfielder Carles Gil netted his sixth goal of the season in Sunday's match, his fourth time on the scoresheet in the last five games. Gil continues to pace MLS in chances created (92), key passes (84), and fouls won (77), while trailing FC Cincinnati's Luciano Acosta (15) by two assists for the league lead. The 2022 MLS All-Star's 19 combined goals and assists this season are tied for eighth best in MLS. With his next goal contribution, the Spaniard will reach 20 goals and assists for the third time in four MLS seasons.

Fellow Designated Player Gustavo Bou returned to action on Sunday, suiting up for his first appearance since July 16. Bou, who entered the match as a substitute at halftime, missed six matches with a leg injury before getting back on the pitch with a 45-minute performance. Bou's next appearance will be his 75th in MLS. The Argentinian forward owns three goals and one assist in seven career games against Chicago.

While Bou's return bolsters the attack, the Revolution have also relied on Homegrown Players to contribute throughout the summer. Forward Justin Rennicks has started six straight matches, a career high, while 17-year-old Academy products Noel Buck and Esmir Bajraktarevic have each seen consistent action. Buck posted a 25-minute appearance off the bench for his third appearance in four games. On a similar track, Bajraktarevic has played in the last three games, including one start.
