York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa): If you've ever wanted to catch a homerun ball while singing "Copacabana" before a summer fireworks show, rub elbows with professional athletes, and see a live buffalo at the ballpark, it might be a good idea to give the York Revolution a call.

On Saturday, December 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the team will hold a special one-day ticket sale for the 2009 season at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Going along with that event, the team is releasing the first details of its much anticipated 2009 promotional schedule-and more will be coming as the season approaches. Despite the economic downturn, the Revolution will continue to shell out to entertain their fans. Opening Day will conclude with the first of 18 fireworks shows this summer.

The Revolution will open Sovereign Bank Stadium for the summer on Friday, May 1, when the 2009 War of The Roses begins against the rival Lancaster Barnstormers. The fireworks that night are sponsored by Penn Waste. Saturday, May 2 will be another packed house at Sovereign Bank Stadium as the rivalry continues, with a fireworks show sponsored by Stroehmann's Bakeries.

Wednesday, June 17 will be one of the more unique nights in Revolution history, when the team celebrates Barry Manilow's 63rd birthday. The legendary performer is noted for such hits as "Copacabana," "Mandy" and "I Write The Songs." Manilow's attendance for the celebration at the ballpark is to be determined. Fireworks shows in July will be courtesy of the PA Lottery (7/11) and Stroehmann Bakeries (7/25).

Also for the first time in 2009, the Revolution will sport pink jerseys and camouflage jerseys for the first time. The Revs will wear pink on Sundays May 3, May 17 and June 7. On the 7th, the Revolution will recognize all of the courageous people fighting cancer on Cancer Survivors Night. The Revs will wear pink for the final time that evening, and auction the jerseys off to fans to raise money benefitting York Cancer Center.

The Revolution will celebrate Independence Day on their Monday, July 6 home game against Camden. The team will don special camouflage jerseys that night to auction off, in tribute to our armed forces, benefitting the USO. That night is sponsored by BAE Systems, and will also include a fireworks show.

Saturday, July 18 will feature a special Noon game at Sovereign Bank Stadium, as the Revolution and Barnstormers face-off in a special day-night doubleheader at two ballparks for the second straight season. Just like last year's doubleheader, Rev fans can take advantage of "Breakfast With The Players" the morning of the game. Breakfast will be served all-you-can-eat buffet style at the Bud Light Picnic Pavilion, and will include the company of several Revolution players.

One of the Revolution's most popular promotional nights will return on Friday, July 24, when the stadium hosts Scout Sleepover Night. After the game, all scouts in attendance, boy or girl, will be invited to camp out on the field after the game. The night includes soda and a snack, and breakfast the next morning, as campers will enjoy a movie on the stadium video board before lights out. Last season, nearly 700 scouts took in the game at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

In an e-mail to the Revolution earlier this week, Django The Monkey announced she had re-signed to appear at Monday home games, for the always popular "Monkey Magic Monday." In addition, the Revolution have secured a live buffalo for their three Wednesday home games in August (8/5, 8/19, 8/26). Fans will have to wait patiently for the hoopla surrounding the buffalo-but he's coming.

"I think Monkey Magic Monday, Bark in the Park and the eagle on Opening Day 2007 has proved that live animals and Revolution baseball is a good match," said Revolution Director of Marketing and Promotions Greg Vojtanek. "A live buffalo is the next logical step, we're all looking forward to what he'll contribute in August."

Magnet schedule photo frames for the 2009 season will be given away on opening weekend, May 2 and 3, sponsored by rabbittransit and WSBA.

This is just roughly one-third of the promotions planned for the upcoming season. Additional giveaway items and dates are currently being organized and will be released in the near future, as well as the other two-thirds of the promotional schedule.
