FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, where they will face two-time tournament champions Liga Deportiva Alajuelense for the third time in tournament history. The home-and-away series kicks off on Wednesday, March 6 with a 6:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium, before the return leg at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica on Thursday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The Concacaf Champions Cup is broadcast by FOX Sports in English and TUDN in Spanish. For complete tournament information and the updated bracket, visit Concacaf.com. Local radio coverage is available in Portuguese from 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
New England advanced to the Round of 16 by eliminating the reigning champions of Panama, Club Atletico Independiente, in Round One by an aggregate score of 4-0. New England earned a 3-0 victory in Thursday's match with goals from Nacho Gil, Tomás Chancalay, and Mark-Anthony Kaye. Goalkeeper Henrich Ravas, making his third straight start across all competitions, collected his second clean sheet in as many Concacaf Champions Cup appearances. The Revolution entered tonight's second leg match with a 1-0 lead after winning the first leg on Feb. 21 in Panama.
The Revolution and LD Alajuelense met in the Concacaf Champions Cup in 2003 and 2006, with the Costa Rican club besting New England on aggregate in both series. Alajuelense qualified for this year's tournament and earned a bye to the Round of 16 as champions of the 2023 Central American Cup. Los Leones, two-time winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup in 1986 and 2004, finished second in the league table in the 2023 Apertura. In the 2024 Clausura, Alajuelense currently sits third in the Primera División de Costa Rica with a 5-2-3 record (18 pts.).
