Reversal of Fortune Pushes Blowfish to Win
July 24, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Lexington County, S.C. (July 23, 2015) -- It took until late July, but the Lexington County Blowfish finally celebrated a walk-off win, 2-1, over the Asheboro Copperheads on Thursday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Having just experienced a defeat in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night in Florence, the Blowfish took until the ninth inning to score all of the offense they would need. Opportunity presented itself over and over again, but the ninth inning was when they broke through.

Anthony Paulsen (Winthrop) skipped a seeing-eye single into right field to score Deric Boone (Southern Union State), and cap off an exciting rally against Micah Wells, one of the Coastal Plain League's preeminent closers.
Gene Cone (University of South Carolina) began the scoring in the ninth inning with a seemingly routine fielder's choice. However this time, the throw to first to try and complete a double play was way high, forcing Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) to score from second base.
The Blowfish would load the bases to set the rally up. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) walked, Bradley got on board due to an error, and Boone attempted to merely get them over into scoring position with a bunt, but found his way aboard anyway.
A combination of Heath Holder (Georgia), Nick Jobst (USC-Aiken) and Erik Davis (USC-Aiken) held the Copperheads to just three hits. They would score their only run on a walk, a hit batter, and two consecutive groundouts against Holder.
The Georgia native went without a decision for the sixth time in eight starts.
Lexington County could not seemingly get that extra hit against Asheboro starter Matt Farmakis. He would erase doubles from Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida), J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) and Bradley, preventing them from scoring with less than one out in every instance.
The Blowfish went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position until the final push.
Davis, who got the win, wasted little time in dispatching the Copperheads late. He hit Ryan Mincher with a pitch, who would set himself up in scoring position. Then, Davis would strike out Justin Bellinger and force Kyle Hamner into a groundout to second base.
The win, by virtue of winning percentage, put the Blowfish ahead of the idle High Point-Thomasville HiToms for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West. The Blowfish also have one game in hand.
The Blowfish will host Pinstripe Jersey Night on Saturday, where the team will be wearing special, one-of-a-kind uniforms that pay tribute to Lexington, River Bluff, Pelion, Gilbert and White Knoll high schools. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Lexington District One Educational Foundation. After the game, fans will experience a Taylor Swift-themed fireworks extravaganza.
