Returner Alex Limoges Ready to Lead in Second USHL Season

Kearney, Neb. - Sitting in the chilly Las Vegas Ice Center during Tri-City Storm Main Camp, forward Alex Limoges kept his usual calmness and wore a deep smile. He put on his Storm jersey for the first time in a month, reflecting on the last time he wore number "26".

"Every morning I wake up and say 'I can't believe we won the Clark Cup,'" he said. "I'm still trying to replay that win in my head. It's still surreal."

This year, Limoges has stressed it's his turn to take a leading role along with the other returners. He said it's the same role last season's leadership group of Tory Dello, Dan Labosky, Mattias Goransson, Jake Wahlin played.

"I've got some big shoes to fill. I learned how to act. All eyes are on you."

As if the eyes hadn't already darted in on Limoges, who played on the USHL's best line in the Clark Cup Playoffs. He finished third in the league with 14 points. The only two better were his linemates, left winger Dan Labosky (19 points) and right winger Wade Allison (16 points).

Limoges, the Storm's top returning scorer, tallied 14 goals and 39 points in 43 regular-season games. After returning from a 17-game absence on December 18, he was placed on a line with Labosky and Allison. In Limoges' first game back, Allison had a hat trick.

It should be noted Allison scored six goals and nine points in 24 games before the line's construction. After assembling, Allison had 28 goals and 54 points in 43 games. Labosky, meanwhile, added 52 points in the same span.

"He's the glue of the line," said Labosky before a January game in Des Moines. Allison said he agreed after hearing Labosky's "glue" description, explaining that without Limoges' facilitating, the line would not be as strong.

The "glue" is searching for new linemates, because Allison (Western Michigan) and Labosky (Wisconsin) are expected to play college hockey. It helps Limoges' suburb passing creates chances for his team.

"It's the way he thinks the game [that makes him successful]," Steve Lowe explained. Lowe is the Storm's President of Hockey Operations that drafted Limoges in the first round of the USHL's 2015 Phase II draft.

"I want to be a guy they can go talk to and ask questions," Limoges said. "I want to work hard every opportunity I can. I want the new guys to model after the older guys."
