Republic FC's Jack Gurr and Keko Named to USL Championship Team of the Week

On Tuesday, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC defender Jack Gurr and forward Keko have been named to Team of the Week for Week 31. In a back-and-forth contest against Rio Grande Valley on October 7, both players added crucial assists - 2 for Gurr and 1 for Keko - to earn a come-from-behind 3-2 win to clinch the Western Conference Regular Season title.

With his squad down a goal in the opening minutes, Keko got his team on the board in the 36th minute. With plenty of space in front of him, the Spaniard carried the ball through the attacking half and sent a perfectly-weighted ball over RGV's backline to Russell Cicerone who skillfully made a one-touch turn to net Republic FC's first of two equalizers. Keko would end the match leading all players with six chances created. He leads the team with eight assists and has added 12 scoring contributions.

Gurr would add two assists of his own on the night, with the first coming just before halftime to bring Republic FC even with RGV for a second time. Gurr received the ball as he made his way up the right flank and with just two touches sent a cross into the box where teammate Luis Felipe rose above the defender to give Sacramento the momentum heading into the locker room. Gurr notched his second assist of the night on Republic FC's game-winning goal in the 68th minute, carrying the ball forward before splitting the defenders on a through ball to Luther Archimède. Gurr has added six assists this season, leading his team with 59 chances created.

This marks back-to-back Team of the Week selections for Keko, who now has five on the campaign, and sixth for Gurr. Republic FC players have now combined to earn 27 selections to the league's weekly top squad in 2023.

Republic FC returns to Heart Health Park for the regular season finale this Saturday, hosting Miami FC on Fan Appreciation Night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News Mobile App, and streaming on ESPN+.
