Republic FC Held to Goalless Draw at Home
April 28, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A standout performance from goalkeeper Josh Cohen saw Republic FC continue their undefeated streak against Phoenix Rising FC at home after the two sides drew 0-0 on Saturday night.
Coming into the match, Republic FC were 3-0-3 at Papa Murphy's Park against the Arizona club, and the home side had the better of the action in the first half but could not convert from several key opportunities.
Sacramento's Tyler Blackwood thought he had put his side ahead in the 17th minute after pouncing on a rebound from Stefano Bonomo's shot on goal, but the play was flagged offside.
Cohen made two acrobatic saves in the first half to keep the fourth-best offense in the league at bay and conserve the clean sheet.
His first was a 17th minute save off a point-blank header from Jose Aguinaga that Cohen managed to tip over the bar. The Bay Area native followed that up in the 41st minute with a diving save on a long-range effort from Junior Flemmings.
The draw moves Republic FC to 3-2-2 and 11 points on the season, placing the club in fifth place in the Western Conference. Next up for the Indomitable Club is a road trip to Las Vegas on May 4th.
