Republic FC Defender Jack Gurr Named to Week 2 Team of the Week

Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC defender Jack Gurr has been named to the Week 2 Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 1-0 win over Miami FC. The Englishman recorded his first assist of the campaign in the 59th minute of the contest, connecting with Trevor Amann for the game-winning goal.

As midfielder Nick Ross drew the attention of Miami's defense as he carried the ball through the middle, an unmarked Gurr made the long run down the right flank near the touchline. With three touches, Gurr controlled the entry pass and sent a perfectly-placed left-footed cross into the box to meet the head of Trevor Amann, who now leads the entire league with three goals on the year. The assist was Gurr's first of the 2024 campaign. He finished second on the squad with six in 2023.

Throughout the match, Republic FC dominated across the majority of stats categories, including an 86% passing accuracy and 15 shots. Of Sacramento's 21 crosses, 12 came from Gurr, more than any player on either team. Gurr also led all players with 94 touches and 22 passes in the final third, while putting up four shots with two on target.

This is Gurr's first 2024 selection to the USL Championship Team of the Week and the honor marks the second straight week that Republic FC has been represented on the league's weekly top squad after Trevor Amann was named Week 1 Player of the Week. Gurr had four Team of the Week selections in 2023 and earned his first-career selection to the USL Championship All-League First Team, as well as a nomination for Defender of the Year.

Republic FC is back in action this Saturday, heading to the east coast for a second consecutive week to face Indy Eleven. Kickoff from Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis is set for 4:00 p.m. PT and the match be broadcast live in English and Spanish on Antenna TV 40.2 and streaming on FOX40.com and through the FOX40 News mobile app.
