WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades notched their fourth straight win, rallying for three in the bottom of the eighth to stun the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 3-2 on a rainy Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.
Jersey Shore struck first in the top of the third against Hudson Valley starter Blane Abeyta. Rixon Wingrove knocked an RBI single to make it 1-0 BlueClaws.
Abeyta matched his season-high with 5.1 innings, allowing only one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking just two.
In the top of the eighth, Wingrove stepped grounded a single to left off Alex Mauricio (3-0), scoring Johan Rojas from second to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Renegades rallied back to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth against the BlueClaws bullpen. With the bases loaded and no one out, Trey Sweeney grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing home Aldenis Sanchez.
He stole second, and catcher Anthony Quirion's throw went wild into centerfield, allowing Pat DeMarco to race in from third with the tying run. Everson Pereira brought Sweeney in with an RBI single to give Hudson Valley a 3-2 lead.
Tanner Myatt earned his third save, striking out one and walking one in a scoreless ninth. With runners at the corners and one out, Myatt induced a double play grounder from Freylin Minyety to secure the victory.
The win was the Renegades fourth straight overall, and third straight when trailing after seven innings.
Hudson Valley will continue its series with Jersey Shore with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Matt Sauer (3-1, 3.43) takes the ball for the Renegades in the opener, while the BlueClaws counter with RHP Dominic Pipkin (1-1, 7.94).
